Hey! For your i7-13700k, the Z790 or Z790E are solid options. With 16 GB DDR4 and a 3080, you might want to consider adding more RAM if needed.

You could upgrade to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM if you can afford it, as you'll need to replace the motherboard regardless.

A fresh motherboard can affect RAM because it determines the system's compatibility and support for specific memory types. Even with 16GB DDR4, an incompatible motherboard may limit performance or cause issues.

16 gb works just fine, though purchasing a new motherboard on a platform supporting either DDR5 or DDR4 isn't harmful. Upgrading to DDR5 makes sense because you can relocate the RAM to a newer build later if needed. Switching DDR4 to a 13th generation motherboard could be a more affordable option—definitely okay. It’s especially sensible if you spot a bundle deal or similar offer.

For keeping your DDR4 setup, consider the MSI Pro Z690-A or the ASRock Z690 Extreme—both work well with the 13700K. With DDR5, go for the DDR5 variant of the MSI Pro Z690 A or the Z790 Aorus Elite. The MSI MGP Z690 Edge is also a solid option.

Currently, DDR5 is viewed with divided opinions online. Many believe it offers significant benefits, while others think its cost makes it less appealing at the moment.

Your RAM speed is 3200MHz, and you're right to be confident about it.

It would be better than its initial release as a 32GB kit with a 5600 MHz clock, though staying with DDR4 remains a solid option too.

If you don’t require 32GB, simply purchase an DDR4 board instead.

You'd likely require 32GB DDR5 when your system demands higher memory bandwidth or advanced features that DDR4 can't support efficiently. It becomes advantageous around 2023-2024 for performance-critical applications like gaming, video editing, or AI tasks.
