Do you know if the Intel Pentium G640 at 2.8GHz fits the Dell OptiPlex 790? Both use the same socket, 1155. I’m sure it should work, but I’m not sure if the 790’s BIOS supports it. Thanks!

This is all the information that is given. https://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shar...ochure.pdf From a quick google search , people are looking to upgrade FROM a G640 to a faster processor, so I'm going to say you have 90% chance a G640 will work in this sytem. GL!

What processor do you possess? The G640 offers limited performance, making it unlikely to be a significant upgrade.

I removed the -7 2600 from my PC and installed it on a different machine with an ASUS board. The 1650 Super 920 board doesn’t have a CPU, just trying to find a cheap option on eBay that I could fit in. The old CPU seems to be working better now.
