Hey there, I built my PC a few years back and thought it was time for an upgrade. I have a GTX 1080, 32GB of 3600 DDR4 RAM, just hoping to get a bit better. I’ve discovered an MSI B550 board with 5800X for around £250, wondering if there’s something even more advanced. I’m currently using a 1800X and prefer at least 8 cores. My motherboards seem to be getting phased out. Thanks in advance! xx
Gaming? 5700x3d – definitely better than 5800x.
Productivity? Pick up the 5800x.
I’d monitor top-tier AM4 processors closely—they’re expected to drop in value once newer models arrive. The 5900X offers 12 cores and 24 threads for roughly $50 CAD, which is about $35 USD more than the 5800X or comparable to the 5700X3D on Amazon. If you prefer a bit more power, the 5950X provides 16 cores and 32 threads for $350 CAD ($250 USD). I wouldn’t recommend the 5800X3D as it’s significantly pricier than similar options.
You might be able to improve performance by upgrading the CPU alone to a 5700X3D model, or opt for a 5700X if you're not focused on gaming.
