each time I launch Chrome my whole system freezes after a while and I have to turn it off again. This began after I replaced my old GTX 970 with a GTX 1070. The freezing duration changes slightly depending on what I do. It happens sometimes when I play a YouTube video and other times when I open a photo. I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro and these are my details: motherboard MSI B85-G43, processor i5 4460, graphics card ASUS GTX 1070, storage 8GB, RAM Corsair Vengeance.

I use Windows 8.1 Home and faced the same problem after upgrading my CPU model. It looks like Windows 8.1 struggles to identify new hardware. I saved my files, ran a reinstall, and that resolved it. However, I’m not sure it will completely solve the issue. Since I use Firefox, it might help, or if you prefer, you could try reinstalling Chrome instead.

Review the system logs in Eventlog, arrange them by errors, and try to pinpoint the cause to the app or service triggering the issue. It could relate to hardware acceleration rendering, especially during video or image tasks, possibly linked to a recent hardware update.
