Hey everyone, I'm trying to upgrade my network without laying new cables. I want to use my existing CAT7 cables and connect to 2.5G or 5G devices. The issue is finding affordable switches that support these speeds—especially since 10G equipment is pricier. Anyone have recommendations on budget-friendly options or should I go for the higher-end 10G setup?

mGig supports 2.5G, 5G and 10G technologies. It’s still emerging, so costs will rise before dropping. Most 1/10G copper solutions are cheaper since they’ve been around longer and have a history in enterprise networks. Choose a 10g switch for better local performance if needed.

I just saw some RJ45 10G switches in stock. Looks like I need to dig a bit into what works best there.

This would be a solid reference point, and we also added Cat6A for future upgrades. Likely we’ll need a 10G switch eventually.
