The title clearly states your goal. You're considering upgrading your 290 GPU to handle more demanding games while aiming for smooth performance and avoiding a frustrating experience.

It’s likely many on this forum will suggest you upgrade your R9 290 before it struggles at 2560x1080. The future is uncertain, but if games don’t meet expectations, consider upgrading. Why wait?

I'm skeptical about this, and AMD graphics cards seem set to see a solid improvement from dx12. Titles are probably unlikely to become much more challenging for several years ahead, as all major AAA games already need powerful consoles to run smoothly. Unless you upgrade to a higher resolution display or a 144Hz monitor, your 290 should keep working well until the next generation of consoles arrives.

They likely relied on certain AMD Mantle API components. The approach that didn't perform well was the one they tried.

The AMD and NVIDIA rivalry is really making a strong impression here.

It uses DirectX 12, ensuring consistent performance across all GPU cards. Otherwise it was DirectX Mantle and failed to function properly.

Is there not a raging discussion about Async compute? Which AMD fanboys are dragging in everywhere to use as a middle finger against Nvidia fanboys. Aha Neverworks

Well there always be fight between RED and GREEN, but imo (in my opinion) green will always win because of better drivers . Amd drivers are always shit. My friend who has a amd card has always problems with it.

The drivers are top-notch. Plus, the day one game improvements came quickly—not after three weeks. For me, their cards sold themselves, and the drivers have been a real help firsthand, so no one else's experience is relevant. I went all-in and stayed focused; they both rely on each other to succeed.
