When you save your existing files, there are secure methods to deploy the newest update and then revert to version 1.5. An unofficial Nexus mod appears to function effectively. Additionally, examine perfmon and Event Viewer to identify any background activities while the system is paused.

Fixed it. It was quite complicated to say otherwise. Initially, performing any action in Steam, even checking game files, would be considered a permission for an upgrade. I mistakenly believed Steam would just verify the version files, so I ended up getting updated eventually. I then downloaded the latest downgrader from Nexus, which is a complete file version; older versions would time out after 100 seconds. I encountered an error with meshes0, even after verifying and updating again, which caused the downgrade to fail.

I removed meshes0 and then meshes1, allowing Steam to repair the missing files. The downgrader worked fine afterward. Everything returned to normal.

The loading sequence was smooth with no conflicts. I used SSEedit (TS5edit) and reviewed the mod files. Within one mod, I discovered that the Master files were being loaded in the wrong order for that mod. Normally they should load as Update.esm, Update-dawnguard.esm, etc., but this particular mod had them reversed inside. Instead of Dragonborn.esm overwriting Update.esm, Update was overwriting Dragonborn. This issue didn’t appear anywhere else.

Just a quirky twist—now saves and entering/exiting maps run about twice as fast, maybe around 3 seconds per door now.

Uncertain whether the upgrade/downgrade fixes were responsible, or if other attempts at resolving the problem inadvertently cleared another bug I hadn’t noticed.
