It's a common challenge for designers. The notes often appear uneven and unbalanced, making them look off when centered. They tend to be heavier at the bottom, which pushes them leftward. A solution is needed that centers them in a way our eyes perceive as natural, even if it doesn't perfectly align with mathematical rules. I'm not sure they could have achieved much better.
