Recently, while using my laptop, I removed the connectors from my Wi-Fi card (Intel 8265), making both the card and wires inoperable. I discovered a wireless card on eBay that comes with antennas (see picture below). The issue is that these antennas differ from those in my laptop, so I’m unsure about installing them correctly. Should I try to fit those antennas (refer to the attached images) or skip them and purchase the original parts from eBay? The worst option would be buying a display assembly with built-in antennas, which would cost more than expected. Sorry for the unclear picture order—I uploaded them one at a time while on the phone. lat5480-om-en-us.pdf
Getting the card with the built-in antennas would work well. Locate a suitable method to run the antenna wires as high as possible toward the display top. Ensure the routing avoids interfering with the laptop hinges. Many devices ship with the flat antenna section positioned behind the LCD. Assemble the components simply and then test them. If signal quality is weak, try alternative routing paths—aim to position them as high as feasible, ideally on the top bezel. **Certain BIOS versions may prevent booting with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth cards based on brand and model. They’re restricted at the firmware level. I haven’t investigated why, but it seems possible.**
Yes, the bottom panel lists 5480. All software recognizes it as a 5480. The issue with the antennas comes from the original ones being mounted on a PCB above the LCD, as shown in the original images. I'm uncertain about handling them. Would it be possible to relocate the new antennas behind the LCD? Alternatively, I could mount them outside the lid by removing a plate from the hinge and running wires along the side of the lid.
