Locate a network switch to connect devices securely.
Hello everyone, I'm searching for a new network switch suitable for a small home office. It should include at least two 10Gbps ports (SFP+ or RJ45) and 16-24 RJ45 gigabit ports. No need for PoE since I won't have any devices requiring it. I don’t want a cloud-hosted solution with only web or CLI access. I’ve considered the UniFi Switch PRO 24 and Aruba 1930 24 Port Instant On, but I’m not sure about reviews or details. The Aruba switch is listed, but I’m finding limited information and it seems a bit pricey compared to Ubiquiti options. I’m concerned about its quality despite the lower cost. The Aruba access points are cloud-managed, so I can control them via web or CLI, though I’m hesitant about full reliance on the cloud. If anyone has experience with the Aruba switch or knows a better option, please share your thoughts—other suggestions would be great!
You might prefer the UniFi Switch PRO 24 when you already own a Ubiquiti controller. In my view, Aruba doesn't perform as well.
I haven't used any hardware before. I see options like refurbished switches, port configurations, and alternative devices such as Gigabit Ethernet modules and basic switches. There are also budget choices like a $139 setup with an uplink module and a $500 microTik model.
I’m okay with used or refurbished gear, but both options exceed what I require. The first model offers 52 SPF and needs only 16-24 gigabit RJ45 ports; the second provides more than enough ports without needing a 10GbE switch. I already have a Netgear 16-port 10GbE switch and just need a couple of 10GbE ports to connect to my gear and router. Gigabit support works on some Intel NUCs and other devices that use gigabit speeds. Thanks for the choices!
For ports only, use an SFP+ media converter. It's much more affordable, but make sure your existing network can handle the 10Gbit speeds.
