He’s experiencing slow loading times in certain titles, sometimes taking 2-5 minutes longer than others. After that, the game may crash or freeze during the loading phase. Once it starts, performance improves. Other games like Sea of Thieves, Project Zomboid and Vintage Story load and run smoothly. The issue seems linked to his distance from the PC, making remote troubleshooting difficult. So far, he’s cleaned the HDD, run a SMART check, reset game settings, and used a 240GB SSD with a 1TB Barracude drive on Windows 10. Any suggestions or further steps?

Your friend might benefit from relocating a game to the SSD. Improved load times would suggest the HDD is the issue. It seems modern games are designed for SSDs, which could explain the performance problems on an HDD.

Loading times seem slow mainly because of the game's installation drive speed. Consider what @Uptivuptiz mentioned earlier. Even the poorest SSD performs much better than traditional HDDs.
