Linux Unraid version 6 has several reported problems.
Hi everyone. I've been following Linus for over four years now. My friend recently switched to Unraid Linux version 6 and upgraded his RAM from 2GB to 4GB. He noticed the system freezes at startup after the upgrade and can't boot further. If he connects a 1GB RAM stick, it works perfectly. He thinks it might be related to the hardware or the board itself, but isn’t sure if there are any restrictions in Unraid about adding more RAM. I’m not very comfortable with Linux, so any advice or questions would be really helpful.
Consider operating system alternatives or reinstalling Linux. Check if your motherboard supports 4GB RAM. Or maybe your RAM isn’t working properly.
4x1 gbs The originals are 12 years old and function well. The newer models are brand new and also work properly. Unraid operates entirely in RAM and starts from a USB drive. Yes, I reformatted twice and tested both the latest version 6 and the older stable version 5.
1. Are we dealing with two new units plus one old, or should we just unplug one of the newer ones? If not already considered, try exploring various setups.
2. Many boards face these kinds of problems—low density versus high density. As someone not very technical, the 4th dimension could easily cause instability or even total failure.
3. To my best knowledge, no. Actually, several unRAID creators recommend using 4GB RAM. If everything passes standard hardware checks, I’d focus on checking compatibility with existing hardware. Stay tuned.
Friend shared this with me, and after testing all four sticks, everything works. I’m beginning to think the issue might be with the motherboard itself. All the original components are over a decade old, but what’s changed are just the new cases and the extra dimming features.
