Linux Mint setup issues (games malfunction)
You're facing a software compatibility issue rather than a hardware failure. The crash after installing Proton 9 suggests the game isn't fully supported on your system. Upgrading the GPU isn't necessary unless you need better performance, but you can try updating Proton or checking for newer versions that support your MacBook's specs.
Mostly GPUs aren't compatible with laptops. The best thing I can suggest is visit www.protondb.com and search for the game there. Sometimes users share their settings to help it run. I remember checking this game recently and saw it reported as having issues under Proton.
Thanks for the note, but I enjoy using the soldering gun when it helps improve my GPU. I’ll check the Proton site later.
It doesn't work that way, unfortunately. Since the Mac lacks a dedicated GPU, it only has one integrated into the Intel CPU, which isn't upgradable. Although external GPU cases exist, I believe you'll need a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 connection to make it functional. My recommendation is to build your own PC, allowing you full flexibility for upgrades.
