Gonna be honest I have no idea what that means. I have a 1000 watt psu, shouldn't be a problem right?

If your program relies heavily on the GPU, it might cause a power problem by triggering current safeguards and cutting off the power supply unit. Top-tier GPUs, particularly from Nvidia, can experience abrupt, extremely high power surges that many PSUs aren't designed to handle.

Sure, that's what I intended to say. I believed it was mostly related to the 4000 series, which is more like a 3000 series issue.

I experienced a complete system crash when I wasn't working with any files in Houdini.

It's true I'm on Linux and Nvidia sometimes causes issues. I resolved it by switching to AMD. For your setup, even without Linux, a Nvidia card could be the cause—try removing it if possible. Alternatively, test with another GPU to confirm. A better power supply might also help.
