It seems unclear what the 'dd' command is for. It appears to be a universal tool that works across various tasks like writing, wiping, cloning, and partitioning disks. It has consistently performed well for me.

Choose Mint or Ubuntu and upgrade to the latest kernel; avoid proprietary drivers. For Fedora, the standard kernel works fine. I enjoy cinnamon, though KDE is also great. XFCE and LXDE offer lightweight options https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries
