Limited overclock potential with MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X
Hello,
I just tested overclocking my MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X and found these settings with MSI Afterburner: +2040 core clock (+120) and +4700 memory clock (+700). I increased the core voltage to 50%, which raised the GPU temperature to around 70 degrees.
I’m curious about how others manage higher overclock limits on the same card. Many seem to reach around +2100 to +2200 core clock. I think my memory clock is still solid, and I only noticed a few people achieving even higher values.
Thanks.
The process of overclocking isn't consistent across all GPUs. It's often described as a silicon lottery.
besides that extra couple of MHz won't actually boost your frame rate. From the start to the OC, you might have gotten a few extra frames if so, but it's not worth the effort for almost no improvement. Just enjoy the card and remember that that extra couple of MHz is essentially pointless in real-world use.
Overclocking isn't certain to work for all GPUs; it depends on the specific chip. This is often referred to as the silicon lottery.
