I’m encountering a perplexing issue with my new RTX 2060 SUPER and my i7-4790k processor – I’m unable to resolve it. Two weeks ago, I utilized the RTX 2060 SUPER with an i7-4770 processor without any difficulties. Recently, I upgraded to the i7-4790k and tested it with the RTX 2060 SUPER. I’m experiencing dramatically reduced frame rates and poor benchmark results. When I use my older GTX 1060 in a PCI X16 3.0 slot alongside the i7-4790k, everything operates flawlessly. Furthermore, the RTX 2060 SUPER functions correctly when installed in a PCI-X4 2.0 slot with the i7-4790k.

Therefore, only the combination of the RTX 2060 SUPER and i7-4790k in a PCI X16 3.0 slot presents the problem.

The RTX 2060 SUPER paired with an i7-4770 performs optimally.
The GTX 1060 and i7-4770 work well together.
The GTX 1060 and i7-4790k function without issues.
The RTX 2060 SUPER and i7-4770 perform satisfactorily.
The RTX 2060 SUPER and i7-4790k exhibit a problem.

Steps taken:
* Verified GPU operation through GPU-Z, confirming PCI X16 3.0 compatibility.
* Applied the latest BIOS update.
* Re-seated the CPU.
* Re-seated the GPU.
* Reinstalled Windows 10.
* Reinstalled GPU drivers repeatedly using DDU (clean installation).
* Installed Windows 7 for testing.
* Utilized diagnostic tools from Intel.

MSI technicians tested the graphics cards, but the issue persists on my system.

System specifications:
MSI Z87-G43 motherboard
MSI RTX 2060 SUPER OC Ventus GP graphics card
Kingston 2400 MHz Savage memory
Cooler Master +80 650W power supply

I resolved the issue by installing three previous BIOS versions, specifically 1.8 for my system. Examining the Z87-G43 BIOS updates indicates that versions 1.9, 1A, and 1B are available, with “optimized OC genie” listed for version 1.9. I found that OC GENIE is now functioning perfectly. Interestingly, I attempted the most recent three BIOS updates, but only installed 1.8 until today.

Is your system running at an elevated clock speed?
Have you attempted to restore the BIOS to its factory settings?
Have you tried clearing the CMOS memory?
