Light CPU and GPU consumption in CS:GO with 8700K and 1080Ti specs
Hey there, just finished assembling my new PC last night and testing it in some games. Need a hand since I’m not super familiar with PC systems. Here’s the setup:
- Processor: i7 8700K
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus X Code
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- GPU: ASUS ROG Strix 1080Ti OC
- Storage: NVMe SSD + HDD combo
- OS: Windows 11
Playing games like PUGB and Path of Exile works fine, with decent FPS. CSGO is a bit hitched—around 280 FPS on a 128tick KZ server, CPU usage stays low at 20%, GPU around 30%. I’ve enabled the "Gamers OC" BIOS profile, which keeps the CPU near 4.6–4.8 GHz and boosted RAM to 3000 MHz via XMP.
I just installed all the latest drivers, flashed the BIOS, but still can’t get it to launch properly during CSGO. I helped a friend with an ASUS Z370 gaming motherboard, which hit over 400 FPS—definitely a big difference.
Anyone know what might be going wrong?
Csgo isn't too tough, and I think that number makes sense. Just because you have the power doesn't mean the game is designed to use it fully.
Enable C-states to avoid maintaining high voltage during idle and maximize power usage. Does GeForce Experience recognize the game?
For those checking this and raising an eyebrow, I'm still puzzled about the behavior, but after re-enabling c-states and adjusting the Intel speedshift, my PC suddenly functioned well. I also disabled the "gamers oc" profile so the CPU only boosts to 4.3-4.6GHz with the "ASUS optimized core ratio" setting. Keeping the RAM XMP profile at 3000MHz idle, its voltage was around 1.168V to 1.2V on some maps last night, and I saw uncapped FPS ranging from 900 to 1100 depending on the map.
