The recommended choice is Windows 7, with support available through 2024 or 2026. *edit* I checked the specifications on your machine and it should function perfectly there, offering a 32-bit option. My Dell is a bit newer and easily handles the 64-bit version. Updated June 16, 2015 by SansVarnic

The notebook isn't compatible with Windows 7. Features like fingerprint scanner, touch screen, quick launch buttons, and trackpad aren't functioning. Intel didn't release drivers for this iGPU, so I've thought about handling only the quirks of Windows 7. However, this device is meant to be user-friendly for schoolwork while visiting friends, and I don't want to face frustration with school, my girlfriend, or my computer.

I noticed that notebook running on Windows 7 was causing issues. The person who shared the link likely prefers staying with Vista. A Reddit post should probably offer a fast, simple, and affordable solution.

Yea, I think with some tinkering I could get it to work but Im not sure this notebook is worth that much tinkering. Although I will say it is a handy little notebook that still seems to have a lot of life in it. Someone gave it to me about 2-3 years ago to repair (the platter based HDD had seen its last days, was reporting about 600 clusters damaged) so when the person never called me back to confirm they wanted to fix it, it just sat on my shelf. About 6 months ago I started seeing this girl and needed a mobile computer other than my phone to do school work on. So I bought myself a 120 GB Kingston SSD Now drive and ploped in here and other than getting a little hot (I plan on taking it appart and re-applying thermal paste and reseating the heatsink) its kinda amazing. I messaged the guy on Reddit hoping he replys back to me. I got a feeling it will be one of these situations where he just doesnt do it anymore.
