Hey! After seeing the extremely affordable computer Linus assembled using old server parts, I decided to build my own home server. I acquired two 4-core Xeon CPUs, a motherboard, and RAM. I’m now curious about CPU cooling options. The socket is 771, but I’m open to modifying it. My goal is to keep costs low—especially since I’m a student. I’ve already spent around 1000€ (about 100 euros) and want to make it even cheaper. Can I just purchase two inexpensive heatsinks and install them with SiPies? Thanks for your help!

Best regards!

The cooler Linus had (likely): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-CPU-C...Sw5ZBWHqit It might be noisy and not very efficient, but it should function.

You can simply use zip ties to secure everything. I've already zipped a stock amp and cooler as seen in the photo below. It's much more affordable than purchasing LGA771 coolers, which tend to be costly.

Thanks! I’m going to use two coolers that are quieter. Sealing it together should work.
