LGA 1700 Motherboards
LGA 1700 Motherboards
What's the top choice for buying right now? It should work well with your ASUS 3090 and DDR5 RAM. As someone who loves ASUS fans, I usually grab these but after checking the latest models I felt a bit confused, hehe.
You're looking for specific components and budget details. The ideal setup depends on your requirements—features like Thunderbolt, x8/x8 support, POST code, 10G LAN, and more, all while staying within your price range. For top performance, the MSI Z690-A Pro offers comprehensive features at around $230 for DDR5, making it a strong choice if you need everything. If you prioritize overclocking capabilities such as Safe Boot, the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Pro is a solid option, especially with its POST code and useful tools. For DDR5 overclocking, consider dedicated DDR5 boards like the MSI Unify X or Gigabyte Z690 Tachyon. If you're focused on x8/x8 support and Thunderbolt, the Z690 Ace or Gigabyte Z690 Aero D could suit you better. Your decision hinges on whether you value advanced features or just want reliable performance. What CPU are you planning to pair with it?
Thanks for the useful response. Could you provide more details? I don’t have a budget and don’t think it’s worth spending a lot on cards over 1000 USD if they’re unnecessary. (I already upgraded the GPU.) The post code is fine but not essential. I’ll do some custom modifications but won’t go too heavy. Having plenty of USB 3.2 ports would be great, as well as space for several M.2 drives. The CPU will be a 12900k. A small touch isn’t that important either. Looking good matters too.
In the scenarios discussed, spending more than roughly $300-$400 on a motherboard isn’t usually necessary. The Z690-A Pro offers solid performance but lacks standout design, while the VRM setup is sufficient for the 12900k. For better efficiency at that price point, consider the Z690 Tomahawk, Z690 Aorus Pro, Z690 Carbon, and the Unify X. These options range from $270 to $550. The Aorus Pro provides extra USB ports and a POST code; the Carbon adds an M.2 slot and enhanced PCIe support; the Unify X supports higher memory speeds and overclocking features thanks to its 1DPC design, ideal for competitive gaming. All feature robust VRM solutions suitable for moderate overclocking on this CPU. While these boards are top-tier, they’re still within reach of reasonable budgets. Generally, opt for the most affordable model that meets your requirements without major drawbacks. None of these models currently have significant flaws, so prioritize value and essential features. The Apex is a notable exception due to its competitive features against other premium boards, despite its higher cost. Avoid ASUS options for most users since their pricing often doesn’t justify the features at that price range.
