I recently started building a budget computer and discovered 8GB ECC DDR3 RAM for £8, which seemed like a great deal compared to the regular RAM costing around £30. I thought it was a smart purchase and continued researching before buying. Now I’m facing some issues—I own a micro ATX case and need a compatible motherboard that works with my CPU. My current setup uses ECC memory, but I can’t use it as standard RAM because of compatibility restrictions. I’m looking for something affordable—something cheap enough to fit my budget. Thanks for your help, Lukas!

I could be mistaken, but it seems the LGA1155 xeons don't support registered memory at all. You'll need LGA2011 models for it to function. This is why this memory is inexpensive—it's limited to very niche hardware, mainly server systems or Chinese LGA2011/2011-3 boards that repurpose server xeons in desktops.
