If your motherboard lacks express chipsets and isn’t restricted to 2000 series Intel CPUs or 3000 series chips, then a 3000 series chipset would be ideal—provided you find a solid price.

There are options available but you might skip them if you already have a 2600 B. A Z board lets you use limited unlock and some bclk tweaks. 105 is typical, though some high-end chips go above that. Keeping temps low helps. The max allcore multi reaches 40, so at 105 bclk you'd get around 4.2 GHz; 110 bclk pushes it to about 4.4 GHz. Testing Z/PC BIOS flashing on an H61M-E is ongoing, but only certain boards like P8Z68 Deluxe seem to work without corruption issues. If you find a compatible BIOS, experimenting with overclocking could be possible.

With a top-tier motherboard and a great discount, the 3770k offers the most solid upgrade you can make right now. If you're waiting, save up for a better platform instead.
