The die looks fine but theres soot on the substrate cause i accidentally exposed it to the flames, but not that long (~1-2 secs) Im using a fricking candle to delid cause im too cheap to get a gas torch and i used a very thin rasor from one of those generic shaving tools iirc for your beard or something (dismantled it), and btw this the p4 631 i used for 5.65g bios boot so hoping to bios boot higher or just be a test device since ill be putting the die underwater (test direct water to die cooling) cause this thing runs hot May aswell ask how am i gonna get it to mount properly after this? Wont be putting the ihs back on and my only ideas are to use some silicone to mimick the area where the socket retention contacts the ihs or use the rim of a bottlecap to do the same thing (have to melt it to be thin enough and prob bend it too) Yes this is a half joke half serious question cause this thing looks kinda toast if the soot didnt give it away already

I cleaned the debris from the surface and everything looks good, just the IHS is a bit damaged now. Ugh, the mounting bracket needs fixing too—I’m planning to install the CPU using zip ties right away.

Thanks for the chuckle this morning... I was counting on it. Honestly, you're probably handling this all by yourself, buddy... Not meant to be a jab, but these things really do have lids for a reason.

Sure, it might work because the base looks okay and the IHS will be a bit tricky to clean. Mounting is also going to be a challenge since my jank loop has a stiff 1/2 inch pipe that could pull it out. I need to find a system that fits this setup, which I already have from when I bought my P5Q—it came with a plastic backplate that uses screws. I’m not sure how to use it without a drill, and the plastic is thin and might bend. Maybe I should try a similar mounting method used for a CPU mount, but I’m not sure anymore.

It's not harmful to attempt using a dead CPU in a system with a lid and the ability to reattach it.
