High-performance build details and recent upgrades. The system features an i7 6700k at 4GHz, paired with a 32GB Kingston Hyper-X 2400MHz RAM and a 2X500GB HDD. It runs on GameMax GM1050 with 1050W output and includes a semi-modular design. A watercooler from Corsair H100i is installed, along with 3 cases and various fans for cooling. The case was thoroughly cleaned, components inspected, and thermal paste reapplied twice. The CPU, RAM, and motherboard are all over five years old. Performance remains stable under load, with cores consistently reaching 95-98°C during intensive tasks. The system supports multiple servers and software, and temperatures were verified via Speccy and iCue. A reboot often triggers an overtemp alert, indicating cores stay near 82-89°C. After five years, thermal paste may have degraded, possibly affecting efficiency. Due to health issues and the pandemic, replacing the motherboard is not feasible at the moment. Two main upgrade paths are considered: hiring a professional to remove the case or flashing BIOS and swapping the CPU for an older model. The cheaper option is a professional de-lid, but it would require weeks of downtime. The more costly route involves BIOS flashing and a used CPU, which could last weeks or years. The cooler was bought alongside the bundle, and it's been this way for five years. However, the temperatures are recent. The current solution temperature is near 57 degrees.
I'm starting to think it is the cooler. Just taken the side off and there is no heat in the radiator or the pipes, Pulled up iCue and it's saying it's rpm is 4250 up to 4750, It's max is supposedly just below 3000rpm. Bugga. lol. Still, cheaper than a 2nd hand 7700k lol. I'll contact the vendor tomorrow and pick their brains, but I think I'll be ordering a new cooler tomorrow.
the system is starting but it seems the pump is the issue, not the cpu. the 6700k came with a standard cooler that’s probably been removed. it’s possible the used unit had its liquid metal sealed back in and placed under the heatsink. for better performance, like with a Corsair h100, you’d need proper cooling to avoid overheating.
