Yes, you can combine the 4GB and 16GB modules without any problems.

Your coworker might not be well informed or might be inexperienced, maybe taking into account old data or a different platform. Pretty much. I would advise against doing asynchronous dual channel (16+4; so you'd have 4+4 in dual channel and additional 12GB which wouldn't be dual channeled). But the screenshot you provided shows you having 8GB memory and using 2 slots on the motherboard. Can you open up RamMon from Passmark and post a screenshot here? https://www.passmark.com/products/rammon/ This is an example of my work PC:

It makes quite a difference, really. The extra RAM would help a lot, especially with the lag you're seeing. Your performance would improve noticeably, and apps would run faster. It could also boost your gaming experience by affecting frame rates.

My coworker is my boss, who has been in tech for over a decade, so it would feel odd. I plan to handle this at home.

The MPO problem remains unsolved—it’s just a registry tweak. Where’s the RamMon screenshot?

I’m unable to proceed at the moment because I’m working. I’ve emailed the link to my home PC so I’ll follow the steps once I’m back. Please be patient until then. I’ll keep trying and ask again if needed, especially since I only have one RAM stick and will need to purchase another 16GB next month.

The image you shared shows two of the four available slots occupied. Using just one stick isn't possible, which is why I'm requesting a RamMon screenshot.

My work PC has a unique setup and environment compared to your gaming PC. Would you like a sample of that as well?

Sure, I took that photo just to check if the RAM on this computer matches what I have at work.
