Lenovo Yoga i7 Battery Problem
Lenovo Yoga i7 Battery Problem
My son is having trouble with his 2-year-old Lenovo Yoga i7 Idea laptop. On Wednesday night he was using it, but by Thursday morning nothing turned on. I tried all sorts of fixes and none worked so I took the bottom case off to remove the battery from where it connected. I held the power button down for thirty seconds to empty its charge, then plugged in the AC charger while the battery was unplugged and it started up okay.
Next I shut it down, put the battery back in, and tried again. It wouldn't start up with or without the AC cord connected. So I did the same thing again just to restart it this time, reconnected the battery while the computer was running. The system recognized the battery and said it had 96% charge. But as soon as I unplugged the AC power, it turned off like there was no battery left at all.
I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver to no good result. Then again an after market new battery came out. This time the unit would turn on without me needing to disconnect the battery first. That's better than nothing though! But now the battery just sits at 0% and refuses to charge.
Not bad. I went through the same steps for the drivers, reinstalled Lenovo power management software, updated the BIOS and firmware, you name it—nothing worked either. Tried the older battery again, no luck. Tried another AC adapter, nothing changed. Any other tips or should I just buy a $1000 "can only be used when plugged in" brick right now?
Not all extra batteries are exactly the same quality. Did you make sure the new one has the exact same wattage as your old one? You might have picked a bad batch. How long did you plug it in just to see if it tried to charge, without trying to turn on the computer first? 2) Two years is actually okay for a laptop that's used every day. That's probably why the issue happened since you could still get power even when you took the battery out and used AC alone.
