Lenovo Ideapad p500 - WiFi card list/BIOS changer
Hey! Thanks for your support. I'm still figuring this out and wanted your advice. To clarify, I recently purchased a mini-PCIe to connect a PCIe X16 mining riser, allowing me to use my existing GPU as an external one for my Lenovo Ideapad P500 laptop. Although I understand it's not ideal, I'm on a budget and didn't think a mining riser was necessary. After setting everything up, nothing happens—no power to the GPU or PSU, and the device manager doesn't show up. I tested it on another older laptop, which worked fine. I tried installing the GPU driver, checking connections, and even reinstalling the graphics card, but nothing changed. I discovered my laptop is whitelisted, so it only recognizes the original Wi-Fi card. Someone suggested disabling the LAN card in BIOS, but I don’t have advanced settings. I found a video about modifying the BIOS, which required using Intel ME Tools V8. However, when I tried it in the command prompt, it reported an error about incompatible flash devices. I’m stuck. I also can’t back up my BIOS with the software in that video, and safe mode isn’t an option because it causes a BSOD. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Initially, this video isn't what you're seeking because the person is doing something different. You'll also need a CH341A and SOP8 adapter to read and flash your bios chip, since Lenovo BIOS chips are protected with write/checksum features on consumer devices. Bios modification is definitely beyond someone unfamiliar with how a BIOS functions or its parts. There might have been a forum like Winraid where people discuss removing whitelists from laptop BIOS, but I suspect we didn't find anyone with that kind of expertise here.
