I’m working on restoring my backup PC. I recently installed a new CPU (Intel i5-13600K) and a motherboard (MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4). After reassembly, the CPU indicator lights briefly on for half a second before shutting down immediately. I’ve removed everything except the CPU, heatsink, and RAM stick—even without RAM it still fails. The components are new, so I wasn’t expecting a problem. I’ve also checked power cables, PSU, heat sink, and updated the motherboard drivers via FlashBIOS. Still stuck. Could be a faulty motherboard, but the hardware looks fine. Any advice would be appreciated. IMG_5345.mov

It seems a BIOS update might be required, possibly for an older model that doesn't support the 13th generation. Consider using the BIOS USB flash method and experiment with various versions if necessary.

The 600 series boards support Intel 13th-gen chips natively. For your specific model, ensure your BIOS is at version 7D25v17 or newer to boot. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR4/support Flash the BIOS if necessary. Check your manual for instructions on using this feature.

I've tested flashing it from various versions and D25v17 and above. With a small USB2 stick, it flickers for about 30 seconds before shutting off, but restarts don't fix the problem. A larger USB3 stick causes longer flicker periods (over 3 hours) followed by shutdowns, still resulting in the same startup issue. I'm unsure if this is due to incorrect BIOS flashing; you've already followed the MSI instructions.
