Hi there, I’m trying to understand this network situation. To be honest, I probably don’t need to solve it right now because most devices are already running inside a virtual HOME LAB (Proxmox) that I’ve been using to learn something new. I set up OPNsense as a VM in Proxmox 8 to practice with this firewall. It receives an IP address from my physical router, which handles my home LAN. I configured a WAN pass rule in OPNsense so that my PC on the local network can access both the OPNsense GUI, VMs, and internal machines. I also set up a route on my home router to connect to the OPNsense VM’s LAN from my physical PC. From my local PC on the HOME LAN, I can ping the laptop connected to the Proxmox NIC on the OPNsense network. So far everything seems fine. But when I try to connect via Windows RDP, the connection drops after about 10 to 20 seconds—sometimes it won’t even start. The same issue happens with SSH (PuTTY). I ran Wireshark and tcpdump on my Windows machine to investigate. I have a couple of screenshots: one showing IP 192.168.9.10 (my laptop) and another showing 192.168.3.100 (my PC). I’m not sure if the problem is related to OPNsense itself. I’ve encountered the same issue with a Mikrotik x86 VM using a similar network configuration in Proxmox. Could you help me figure this out? Thanks!
