When streaming through OBS, focus on reducing extra effects and stabilizing your frame rate. OBS relies more on GPU processing rather than CPU, which explains the higher GPU usage.

It varies based on CPU or GPU encoding settings, plus overlays and PIP sources—GPU will handle blending.

Additionally, OBS tends to be quite resource-heavy, particularly when contrasted with Shadowplay. I’d estimate Shadowplay adds around 1% overhead while OBS brings about roughly 10%. In demanding games, this difference becomes apparent. The main fix usually involves managing system load and employing techniques like VSync or similar to stabilize the frame rate and prevent screen tearing. It’s hard to say for sure if the problem is actually screen tearing—running at an unlocked frame rate should trigger it whether or not OBS is used, unless the game is accidentally capped at 60 FPS and OBS pushes it lower.

I'll include that using RTX and DLSS can often lower FPS if you don't also set a specific target limit. Computers and servers are usually built to handle maximum performance, but giving them a cap can improve stability and ease performance issues. This is why an unlimited FPS setting can look confusing and cause problems with lower-end hardware, since the design aims to push performance to its limits. If your hardware can't actually reach that level, it might freeze or crash entirely. The best way to get the most out of your system is to understand its capabilities and adjust settings to find a balanced, optimal setting.
