I don't rely on the blue crosshair; instead, I use the green circle and press aim+shoot with it.

Green is fine, but it should be a diamond—or a flipped square if you prefer the name. Try practicing a bit, and if you're still not good by next week, consider recording your gameplay and sharing it here. That way, it's easier to see where you're going wrong.
