I explored the wiki content, achieved a perfect score three times, but only once. The lore feels unclear, making it hard to decide where to begin. Since you haven’t played any other Elder Scroll titles, starting with Tamaril and the races might be a good idea.
The lore for the games tends to change to suit Bethesda's whims. If something they want to do in the game they're making doesn't make sense in the lore... they just change the lore. You could always just find a wiki list of all the different books in the games and read them though. Pretty much all of the lore is contained inside the books you can find scattered around in the games. Everything else comes from playing the games themselves. There is a wealth of information concerning the series though. The history and events are vast and numerous.
I have the latest Skyrim and Elder Scrolls lorebooks available online. I’d suggest picking them up only if you’re deeply into fantasy—things are complex and packed, but they’re fascinating. I also own the Hero’s Guide to Elder Scrolls Online, though it was a limited run of just 10,000 copies, so it’s now very rare. It offers solid background on historical figures and gives insight into everyday experiences while exploring Tamriel.
