Learn how to set up a Docker volume on an external drive.
I'm working with Docker-Compose on a Raspberry Pi 4. To run Piwigo, I need the gallery folder on the SD card itself, not on a native partition. Since my SD card has limited space, I'm planning to store all images on an external HDD using NTFS format. Moving the volume to the HDD breaks Piwigo functionality. I've tried syslink but it just copies data instead of freeing space. The docker-compose file follows a YouTube tutorial. What options do I have?
I didn’t make any extra steps to set it up from the start of the OS. It automatically mounted both my HDDs to /media/pi right after the first launch. I thought Linux wouldn’t recognize the drive, so I needed ntfs-3g? Yet apps like rclone and Samba can still access them, which is why I can download and stream files on my local network.
Probably just needing to adjust the access settings on the external drive or folders that Docker requires.
You can adjust the drive settings to use the ext4 file system. This should resolve the SMBa server problems you're facing. Docker already creates the necessary directories and files (like /Segate1TB/piwigo/gallery), but PiWigo isn't compatible with it. I've also tried Photoprism, but it doesn't work—folders are created on the HDD yet it fails to boot.
