Hi, your friend is facing a challenge with his BitLocker-protected disk. It seems the recovery information might not have been saved or recorded properly during the encryption process. He mentioned that the recovery page on Microsoft’s site doesn’t appear to show the necessary details. Since he has the disk’s identifier code, there should be a way to retrieve the BitLocker recovery key using that code. I recommend checking the official Microsoft documentation for steps to access recovery credentials when BitLocker is enabled. If you need further guidance, let me know!

Without the Bitlocker key, removing the encryption isn't possible. Even contacting Microsoft won't help you unlock the drive. The only option is to format or erase the current partition, which will erase all stored information.

Recovery key could be connected to your MS account based on how the encryption was set up: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...6f5ab347d6. If it isn't and the key wasn't saved during activation, you're unlikely to succeed.

He claims to have the recovery key and ID code, but they're stored in a text file on an encrypted drive. The file name is just the ID code, so he only has that information. He can't access the file directly because of the encryption. It's hard for me to understand his situation.

The setup guidelines usually warn against keeping the recovery key on the same disk as the encrypted drive. That way, it stays safe and separate.

It clearly prevents this action for simple reasons, requiring you to go around and save the file elsewhere before moving it.
