Learn how to configure Cloudflare DNS for your Airport Time Capsule and revert to your ISP settings.
Hi, I need to configure Cloudflare DNS for your Airport Time Capsule. You have a modem/router (in Bridge mode) and your router is set up as the Time Capsule. The ISP provided it, but changing DNS settings didn’t resolve the issue—lookups still show your router’s IP. Could you also tell me how to restore the original ISP DNS configuration? Thanks for your help!
The main problem is your modem/router operating in bridge mode. You should contact the ISP, request the DNS server IPs, and ask if they can provide a standalone modem without a built-in router. Once you receive the new device, plug it into the airport and configure the DNS servers. If needed, adjust settings at the airport to switch back to the ISP’s network or use Cloudflare/IPS for privacy.
Thank you for your response, but they're not sending another modem...
Your modem should operate in bridged mode for routing signals between routers. This setup isn't too problematic, though it depends on your DNS configuration. If you run a test at https://www.dnsleaktest.com, a result showing Cloudflare indicates your DNS is being managed through Cloudflare. Otherwise, the other modem or router may be filtering traffic. Proceed with testing.
It's completely typical. Your device recognizes your router as the DNS provider, and it will send the query to 1.1.1.1 as intended.
The output showed Cloudflare. Should I complete the DNS IPv6 sections or leave them blank as shown in your attached photo? Thank you!
Please check the DNS IPv6 fields in your attached photo and fill them out if needed, otherwise leave them blank. Thank you!
Only when your internet service provider allows it and you actually use it, which is rare for most users.
