Apologies if my request seems confusing or out of place. In a household with seven members (Australia), online activity becomes quite busy. For instance, I’m playing Valorant on Sydney servers with stable 30 ping. If one of my four brothers starts downloading nuclear launch codes, everyone experiences severe lag (100 ping). In such a big family, this might happen only once an hour. I’m curious if it’s possible to limit bandwidth on devices so downloads don’t disrupt others. Or perhaps adjust how bandwidth is allocated—distributing it evenly instead of giving the download person all the speed? Thanks for any advice! P.S. If this was posted in the wrong section, feel free to relocate it.
It relies on the amount of control or access you possess over the router. If it offers QoS setup, that’s the best option.
I don't think so, mainly because it's an old 10-year-old black brick device and we're moving to a much newer, more advanced model soon, so it should definitely be able to handle that.
What bandwidth are you using? With a small shared capacity, it's smarter to focus traffic rather than limiting each client's bandwidth because some apps may require more than the limit allows. QoS is a solid starting point. I favor Smart Queue Management on the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter since it handles things automatically, but I've heard there are more advanced bandwidth managers available if you're comfortable adjusting the firmware.
