Hello, for an odd reason the Lavasoft webcompanion came preinstalled with a pirated Windows 10 version from PirateBay. I installed it right away since I wasn't sure what it was. After a few weeks, I chose to remove the leftover files like lavasofttcp.dll and lavasofttcp.ini. Some apps such as Skype and Steam still couldn't connect to the internet even though I had a working connection and Chrome browsing worked fine. When I open Steam, it shows this message—any advice would be appreciated.

You might be downloading Windows 10 from TPB because you accidentally removed a part of the installation that was included with the software.

I fixed the files and they are now functioning properly, but I’m concerned it might be a virus or another issue.

There’s no need to obtain Windows 10 from external sources except from Microsoft. You can download it for free, create an installer, and purchase a key for around $20. I recommend generating a bootable drive from the provided link and reinstalling from the start: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows10

I've already done that, now I just have to wait until the exams are finished so I don't lose anything during the process, after that I'll install it.

This software is being integrated into the steam process. It's been found that Steam has multiple conflicting programs with downloaders, and using DLL injectors can prevent connecting to VAC servers when required.

Upgrade by installing a fresh Windows image directly from Microsoft, regardless of activation status.
