Hello, I’m beginning a fresh build project and have a few questions about using my Windows 7 installation DVD. 1. With Windows 10 launching soon, can I still use the Windows 7 DVD for installation and the free upgrade? 2. Do I need to pay for a new Windows 7 license? 3. Would it be simpler to install Windows 10 during the build process? Thanks!

I think you can keep your current license, though it has a limit on uses. It might be worth trying, you might need to call MS for help. If it helped you save money—like the $120 for a Windows 10 license—it’s probably a good idea.

Ten activations included Vista; I'm not sure if they still support it. In any case, all retail versions are usable. A few OEMs might work too, though I can't confirm due to CoC restrictions.
