Hello, I received an Asus a556u with a Wi-Fi card: ASUS 0C011-00061H00 Wireless Network Adapter. The adapter uses the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x chipset and supports IEEE 802.11. To find a compatible replacement for 802.11 AC, check your laptop’s specifications to see which Wi-Fi standards it supports. You can then look for an adapter that matches those requirements. Thanks in advance! Rodrigo

The laptop is a Dell XPS 13. Checking the WiFi adapter inside will help determine its type and whether it's easily swappable.

Although the slot seems capable of supporting any M.2/NGFF WiFi adapter with an E-key, your current card only has one antenna, which explains why there’s just a single wire connected. If you don’t notice a separate connection, you might miss out on the full benefits of a dual-band WiFi adapter. In this case, a USB adapter could be the best option available. I recommend choosing one with a USB extension and cradle (like these models) so you can fine-tune its placement for better reception. Still, if there’s an additional cable present, any Intel AX200 or AX210 should work just fine. These devices belong to the WiFi 6/6E line but are compatible with older WiFi 5 APs (wireless-AC) and are quite affordable.

Hello Rodrigo, thanks for your question. Your download speed is currently capped around 6-7 MB/s. When you refer to dual band, it typically means using both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. Installing an M.2 Wi-Fi adapter that connects via the main cable—with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac—should still offer good performance, though not as high as your 30-35 Mb/s on a dedicated 5 GHz connection.

It could be true, though certainty isn't assured. It varies based on the wireless chipset in use. Certain models excel over others since newer versions often include enhancements absent in previous technology.
