Hello, welcome to the forum! I'm new here and wanted to confirm I'm posting in the right spot. My PC is around 10 years old, equipped with an OC i7 2600K, 24GB DDR4 RAM, and a GTX970. It runs fine most of the time, but it struggles during heavy rendering tasks. I'm planning to build a custom PC myself by the end of the year, with a budget between 2000€ and 4000€. The setup will be fully architecture-based, using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, and Rhino+Vray. Since Vray is the most demanding tool, I'm focusing on finding the best balance between CPU and GPU performance. I've considered three options you shared: one image link. I'm unsure if choosing a high-end CPU and GPU makes sense since I'll only use one for rendering. Should I opt for a 3990x and a mid-range GPU, or maybe a 3900x with a 2080Ti/Quadro? Any advice would be appreciated!
I plan to wait for the Zen 3 and new GPUs, but I need a basic model to decide which option is best. For Vray, you can render using CPU or GPU, so you could focus on one to maximize your investment. With the GTX970, the same render might take half the time compared to an i7 2600K, but the comparison isn't fair because the processor is much older. The main question is finding the best performance per dollar spent, like how much faster a 2080 Super is versus a 2950x, even though they cost the same.
Um one is a gpu and the other is a cpu. Though wouldn't go with zen or zen + TR. Check what zen 2 TR has to offer, but which will perform better? Check sources/benchmarks and check if the task is benifits more from GPU horse power or cpu. Though for now wait for zen 3 and ampere and big Navi and check what they have to offer and then decide.
