Latest news about the Power Mac G4.
Well, I started out feeling pretty lost. With three other machines, I disassembled everything. Each component—except the CPUs and motherboards—spread out across the basement floor. It was time to organize things, so I reassembled two units: the Power Mac G4 and my Pentium III/Win98 tower. I installed the Win98 first, then mounted the Power Mac's optical drive since it was the only beige DVD-ROM drive available. I ran into booting issues, so I disconnected most parts except the HDD connected to the IDE ports (the DVD-ROM and Creative 48x were on a secondary port, while the HDD stayed on the primary). After getting into the BIOS and fixing the bus synchronization, it booted into 98. I reinstalled the Creative drive, which worked perfectly. Then I reinserted the DVD-ROM, but it still wouldn't install Mac OS 9. So I removed it and put it back in the Power Mac. I noticed that after cleaning up, only the 98 HDD could be read because my 98 CD was scratched. I couldn't access anything on the G4 HDD—HFS+ made it impossible. By October, everything was reassembled again, and I was trying to troubleshoot. It wouldn't boot at all; I suspected a problem with the optical drive. Now I have a different DVD-ROM in place, and it's installing Mac OS 9 as I write this. Lesson learned: Keep your attention on more than just Among Us.
