I'm really upset. My system had a 5900x that mostly functioned, but I was dealing with the USB connection problems and overall instability. It would work for a while before it would restart repeatedly. I went through the return process and got a brand new 5900x in its original packaging. After installing the new CPU, my computer fails to boot Windows at all. Once it loads the sign-in screen, it only stays open for a few seconds before crashing with memory errors. I've tried using a 3000mhz C16 adata (2x8GB) and changed XMP settings, but nothing helped. My main RAM is 2x16GB ballistix. I've also updated the chipset drivers from AMD and installed the latest BIOS for the Asrock B550. All other parts are working fine, including the R5-3600. I previously had a 5800x that also worked perfectly. Anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong? Could it be the motherboard not supporting something special about the 5900x? Did I accidentally install two different CPUs? Thanks for your time. Jake

Among those instances, how often did you reset the CMOS? I understand it's simple, but it's surprising to think it might be the CPU now. Are there any new UEFI updates for your board?

The initial problem was resolved. USB dropout was a recognized, previously fixed concern in BIOS settings. The current issue appears linked to faulty memory controller performance due to memory management issues.

It's really tough, honestly. This kind of stuff explains why I left AMD a while back. They said I'd never come back, but I guess I just enjoy the rough treatment. That's not true—I don’t own any PCIe 4 devices, which might have saved me from getting crushed by this box. There’s a newer AGESA version out there; if you don’t have it, grab it!

I'm not familiar with this situation, but it seems the board isn't well prepared for a 5900X. If the 5800X functions properly, it points to the issue being elsewhere. You've likely received an ITX board intended for different CPUs. You might test the CPU without boost to check stability, though I think you'll need a more robust ITX with better VRMs.

Officially verified CMOS never cleared more than once; according to my understanding, the BIOS resets itself whenever the CPU is swapped or the BIOS is updated. AsRock just dropped a beta BIOS yesterday with the newest AGESA update, but it didn’t make a difference. Appreciate the response!

It will still start and function correctly even when the system isn’t under heavy load, including with a faulty motherboard.

I’d reset it myself manually—yet I’ve heard this tale often on other platforms too. That’s why I chose the 10900kf over the Ryzen 7 5800x. My own trial with Ryzen wasn’t great, though it was the first-gen model.

Both the 5800 and 5900 chips are 105W under load, with the 5900 drawing more power due to additional cores. You might need to adjust the voltage manually for RAM and CPU.
