Hello everyone. I'm looking for ways to lower the latency between my modem/router and my PC. I've tested three different ISPs' modems, which showed varying ping times: 0.600ms to 0.800ms, 0.500ms to 0.700ms, and 0.300ms to 0.500ms. The cable used is Cat6a over 15 meters at 500MHz. Some others claim it can drop to 0.100-0.200ms. My question is whether the Ethernet port itself adds delay and how to minimize it. Also, could switching to a different Cat cable help reduce the lag? Thanks in advance!

You understand the need for precision and adjust your speed accordingly.

The port shouldn't experience any delay because it's only briefly passing through the signal. We were discussing 3 to 5 tens of thousands of seconds, which isn't a significant difference.

The differences in timing values arise from various influencing factors. Consider hardware performance, software settings, environmental conditions, and measurement precision. These elements can collectively impact the observed results.

You're focusing on the CPU time within the device you're interacting with, handling the message and sending a response.

It depends only on the modem and how it manages traffic, not on the cable type or the network card on the PC.

Yah, there is some latency added by the cards and cables but you're talking 1-2 nanoseconds at best
