Last Friday my PSU failed because of overvoltage, could it damage my PC?
Last Friday my PSU failed because of overvoltage, which destroyed my hot plate, Xbox One and Apple charger. Even though they were replaced, I couldn't get the motherboard or GPU fixed. My wife asked me to have them checked, but she only got the motherboard inspected and couldn't test the GPU. Now I'm away from home due to a work trip.
Here are my PC specs:
MBD: Gigabyte B450
CPU: Ryzen 5 3500
GPU: RTX 2060 Super Galax
RAM: XPG 3200 DDR4 16GB (2 x 8GB)
PSU: Corsair CX650M
I keep worrying about this and fear I might ruin the deal. Please help a brother out.
Hold on checking the GPU.
Have your wife unplug the PC and affected peripherals and just leave it all alone until you return from your trip.
Nothing else will happen to the PC in the meantime.
Then there will be no need to worry and "mess up the deal".
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Thanks for the response. I verified that the RAM's RGB was functioning, then tested it on another board and an A10 board. Although it's an older board, I'm using it as a Linux machine. I'm just curious if my GPU is in good condition.
The condition requiring a Linux-based solution for testing the GPU while you're away is confirmed. You'll have to rely on the Linux community for guidance on checking the GPU.
Well, it's not the simplest challenge. Nvidia driver support in Linux varies greatly. Most distributions lack a dedicated 'game ready' driver. What I mean is a driver with functional 3D features, which will come with a minimal driver enabling a basic Linux boot.
Pop OS appears to provide an installer that includes Nvidia's driver, making it more suitable for a direct live installation without disrupting your current setup.
You might be able to obtain Nvidia's Linux driver and try it yourself.

Alternatively, use command lines tailored to your distribution.

Recently, I encountered the need to install Ubuntu onto a USB drive, add the Nvidia driver, and then run Unigine Heaven as a simple test for 3D performance.
Hey everyone, just came back. Had my PC checked and sent the PSU to Corsair since it was still covered under warranty. The rectifier module broke, but now everything is fine. Thanks for your help. Those last two weeks were really tough for me.
