Laser printer problem
Laser printer problem
I have a Samsung ML1630 laser printer that functions properly on my old PC but not on my latest one. Previously, I used it with a print server on my newest PC only. When the print server stopped working (continuing to cause blue screens), I removed it and attempted to restart the PC to print directly again. The issue now arises when trying to reinstall the driver; the PC claims it cannot detect the printer even though it is connected and powered on. I suspect the PC still believes the print server remains active despite the uninstallation. Any advice would be appreciated.

Is the USB connection between host computer and printer correct?
With the goal of sharing the printer with other network computers, correct?
Can you test another known working USB cable between the printer and host computer?
Where do I find the printer drivers? I believe they should now be available on HP's website.
Download, reinstall, and set up manually. Avoid third-party tools or installers.
Check Device Manager. Make sure the printer appears. Verify that View > Show hidden devices is enabled.
I've used a different USB cable, which is fine.
The printer works independently (no network).
I've downloaded the newest driver from HP's site.
Before installing, I need to connect the printer. The PC makes a loud clicking noise when connecting or disconnecting, but it doesn't show up in Device Manager.
I'm sure this is related to the print server, which I've removed, though I think the PC still thinks it's present.
Verify that "Show hidden devices" is functioning correctly.
The clunking noise often appears as a musical tone when a USB device is connected or removed. This might actually be due to a corrupted or altered sound file.
Perform a search for "How to customize Windows sounds" using a Google search.
Inspect your system without making any changes yet.
The goal is to identify the appropriate sound that should play when a USB device or printer is connected or disconnected.
You may test with a USB thumb drive to see if the clunking noise happens or if another sound appears.
Access the sounds menu directly by typing "Change system sounds" in the search box at the bottom left corner of the screen.
Scroll through Program Events and listen to the Device Connect and Device Disconnect entries.
Explore other audio cues to pinpoint the specific "clunky" sound.
It could be related to some faulty or damaged files.
On your PC, consider running the built-in Windows troubleshooters. They might resolve the issue.
Additionally, run the DISM command tool and use "sfc /scannow" along with "dism" for repair.
Refer to the guide at https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-sfc-...es-2626161
For more details on using DISM to fix Windows 10 image, see Windows Central.
It may require a brief cleanup to restore printer visibility and functionality.
The print server you used would not have anything to do with this since it's a new printer setup, unless you are doing something odd during the setup.
You may need to install the drivers manually, If the printer is showing up in Device Manager, right click on it there, go to drivers and point it to the installation of the drivers that the system should have.
I don't understand why I mentioned HP; should have specified Samsung. It wasn't a completely new configuration since it was connected right before I installed the print server. It doesn't show up in Device Manager, which is the issue—the PC needs to recognize it before I configure the driver. The problem isn't with the printer, as it functions properly on my old PC that never had the print server set up.
