Laptop runs slower than a desktop with an Intel 1070 processor.
I purchased a laptop in early 2022, specifically an ASUS Strix G15 equipped with an RTX 3070 and an AMD Ryzen 9 (model G513QR). Recently, I attempted to benchmark Counter Strike 2 but struggled to maintain around 120 frames per second at high settings. My performance averaged between 80-100 FPS in 1080p, whereas my desktop setup (GTX 1070 + i9 9900k) consistently reaches about 120 FPS with up to 160%. You can view the benchmark results here: the laptop video and the desktop comparison. It appears my laptop uses less power and only achieves about 40% GPU utilization, while my desktop can push the GPU to near maximum capacity. Anyone familiar with similar configurations could suggest ways to boost performance? This level of output seems like a significant investment.
I also verified the power configurations. The NVIDIA control panel lists the 3070 as selected, and it’s connected via a monitor using USB-HDMI, which should link it to the GPU. Some sources suggest this setup enhances performance with NVIDIA Optimux, so I might adjust the CPU settings to see if it helps reduce heat.
The situation involves limited GPU utilization, indicating a CPU bottleneck, though possible RAM constraints could also play a role. It depends on whether the laptop supports dual-channel memory configuration.
