You're planning to assemble your first PC and are curious about transferring your laptop's HDD to an SSD using Windows. It seems you already have Windows installed, so you likely won't need to purchase it again. The note about not buying Windows is correct—your laptop came with it pre-installed.

The OEM Windows license you received with your laptop applies only to one device. Even after moving to a new drive, you’d need to reinstall Windows for the desktop due to hardware variations. Partition copying is usually not a reliable solution.

It might function, but it's strongly discouraged.

It functions properly, and I currently have a laptop HDD installed on my PC as well. The Windows license is no longer valid.

It seems you're currently on Linux and planning to switch to Windows when needed.
