Hello, I'm not very technical but I usually try to handle things myself. I shared a post last mid-year about my laptop shutting down even when it was plugged in. Thank you everyone for your help then. I discovered a nearby shop and they suspected thermal issues, but I think they just rushed some fixes hoping for the best. I decided to buy a desktop since I didn’t want to wait for a solution. Now I’m attempting to fix it on my own. I disassembled it and examined the board. I believe the issue lies in the burned section below where the DC input connects to the motherboard. I attached some photos (though I’m not sure what exactly I was looking for). I’m confident I can handle the repair. My questions are: 1. Is this likely the cause of the problem? 2. Can it be fixed, or is everything beyond repair? 3. If it can be fixed, do I really need to replace the MOSFET chip? 4. How challenging would that replacement be? I’m comfortable with standard soldering—I’ve done copper work and jewelry soldering for my wife’s charm bracelet. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I would assume that is your problem, shouldn’t have a burn on the board. It might be fixable. Really not great pictures taken and this is just a fun project. It’s kinda a fun thing to do while on a break from work, something you work on just to work on. It might be fixable, and yeah the MOSFET chip will need replaced if something happened to it. Should be fairly hard, a fun project to learn professional soldering. I believe in you, I think you can do it. Let me know if you need more help and how it goes.
