I organize LAN gatherings where we enjoy cod 4, halo 1 and occasionally minecraft. The group sizes vary from 8 to 24 participants, using equipment ranging from mid-2000s laptops to high-end towers with 290x or 970 ports. My internet connection is slow, averaging around 3.3 Mbps, but it can reach up to 6.5 Mbps when the outside network is stable. All parties run directly on hardware, through switches, so we stay online even if the external connection drops. I’m looking for a list of PC LAN games that meet these requirements: minimum support for 16 players, ideally more, stable performance, and fully compatible with older systems. Thanks in advance!

Chilvalry works well with many players and encourages local connections. It's really enjoyable, though you can expect lots of shouting from participants.

Counter Strike 1,6 remains a strong LAN experience and runs smoothly even on basic hardware. Half-Life: Division 1 also fits that same profile. For some reason my mind gets confused and I can't recall any LAN games we used to play together whenever we had LAN sessions, which usually happened every few weeks or so.

Trackmania offers a great experience, particularly when players create their own maps. TF2 is also enjoyable in many people's opinions.
